Mission Statement
North Middlesex Savings Bank is an independent community bank operated by and for the benefit of local people and businesses. We succeed in providing for the long-term financial needs of our community by being financially strong, socially responsible, and by providing a quality of customer service that encourages customers to return to our Bank. We concentrate on doing those things we can do particularly well and maintain a corporate culture that encourages excellence.

History of the Bank
North Middlesex Savings Bank was incorporated in 1885. Benjamin H. Hartwell was the first President of the Bank. Originally located in Mead's Block in Ayer, the Bank moved fourteen years later into the building it currently occupies. The original buildings are clearly depicted in historical photographs.
The Savings Bank Block, built by Charles H. Dodge of Groton, Massachusetts, housed North Middlesex Savings Bank and the First National Bank of Ayer on the first floor, in addition to a large store. The First District Court of Northern Middlesex occupied the second floor until 1970. When the District Court moved, the Bank used some of the available space and rented the remainder to the Ayer School Department until 1981. Since 1990, the Bank has occupied the entire building.

We have continued to expand into the community. 101 years after the Bank was incorporated the first branch office was opened at 225 Great Road, Littleton. The following offices have since opened: Pepperell 80 Main Street December 1994, Devens (now located at) 6 Andrews Parkway May 2001, Lunenburg 947 Massachusetts Avenue June 2003 and Shirley 94 Front Street August 2004. Our seventh banking office was opened in Groton in 2006. The state-of-the-art building was designed to include an Operations Center. Operations, MIS, IT and Finance were moved from our Main Street Ayer location to the new facility in Groton.

As the Main Office building approached its 100th anniversary, the Bank made extensive renovations during 1997 and 1998. These renovations created a state of the art banking facility that preserved its original architectural beauty and still provides our customers with the most modern banking services.

The celebration of the Bank building's 100th anniversary included the opening of a 100 year old time capsule that was televised live on national TV's "Good Morning America" and the collection of contents for a new time capsule that was dedicated on November 7, 1998. During 1999, the Bank dedicated a beautiful downtown park as a gift to the Town of Ayer and the surrounding communities to complete this 100th anniversary celebration.

North Middlesex Savings Bank remains committed to providing state of the art banking facilities and has recently renovated the Pepperell Banking Office. In order to better serve the needs of our commercial clientele the Devens Office was redesigned into a Business Banking Center. The Littleton Office, which is slated to move within the year, will continue to reflect our approach to banking in its design. From the earliest days, the Bank has been a warm and friendly place to work and transact business. Although the Bank is continuing to grow and expand, we strive today to maintain that long-established tradition of warmth and friendliness in serving the banking needs of our customers and community.

What's the DIF?
Most banks are only insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which insures each depositor to at least $100,000. We, as a Massachusetts chartered savings bank, are also members of the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF), which insures all deposits and interest not covered by the FDIC, without limit, without exception. With the DIF, there are no loopholes or limits.
You're guaranteed TOTAL PROTECTION for all of your money. In fact, no depositor in a Massachusetts chartered savings bank has ever lost a single penny of deposits or interest since the DIF was established in 1934. By banking with us, you enjoy the protection and peace of mind that comes from total deposit insurance! Each depositor is insured to at least $100,000 by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC); all deposits above this amount are insured by the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF).
